In celebration of Black excellence and creativity, Holts has partnered with R.I.S.E. and Randell Adjei, Ontario’s First Poet Laureate, to showcase pieces that speak to the Black experience from unique perspectives. The second piece is “Took Me from My Roots”, performed by Dynesti & Esie Mensah. Combining song, spoken word, and dance, the duo grapple with the Black diaspora, generational trauma, and reclaiming their roots to rise above.
